The shortage of housing in the area of Amsterdam has – despite the corona crisis and the building of 30,000 houses – increased in the last two years. The municipality of Amsterdam has the ambition to build 50,000 new houses before 2025. This will be established by building new houses, but also partly by transforming empty buildings into housing. Fugro also partakes in this task. Fugro works on the development of new houses on to be created land near the IJ bridge, the transformation of the current Kauwgomballen area from a traditional business park to a mixed living- and working area, and the building of new high-rise building along the IJ. There are different requirements to take into account, not only different soil conditions, but also different requirements from the historical area and the stakeholders. One also has to take into account the current infrastructure, like harbours, quay walls and underground infrastructure.

During this lunch lecture Martijn Müller and Maarten Profittlich – both geotechnical engineers at Fugro – will talk about different interesting projects within the capital, the current situations on these projects and the valuable role that an engineer has within these projects.

The lunch lecture will take place on September 9th, from 12.30 till 13.30h. If you want a Subway sandwich during the lunch lecture, please sign up here. The lecture will probably be hosted via Microsoft Teams, a link to the meeting will be sent on the day of the lecture.
